The motto of our research laboratory, “Bold as an angel, up-to-date as a devil,” is of course a quote from Akira Kurosawa. Within the laboratory, we often use the axis of “angelic degree” and “devilish degree” to evaluate our research. For example, someone might say, “That idea has a high angelic degree, but the devilish degree is lacking” (meaning that the idea is bold, but the technical execution falls short).
