• Deadline boost in work (i.e. deadline-driven)

  • The boost only works when the brain is functioning properly, so working late at night or pulling an all-nighter doesn’t help with the deadline boost.

  • Therefore, I want to be aware that the deadline boost cannot be used at night.

    • (By doing so, my internal deadline will be shifted from 8:00 in the morning to 12:00 at night, which is good.)
  • To be more precise,

    • I recently realized that relying on the late-night deadline boost for tasks that require mental effort, except for parts of the work that don’t require thinking, is not a good idea.
      • Decision-making cannot be done late at night.
      • Trying to use the late-night deadline boost for decision-making or difficult tasks
        • Ultimately, I cannot focus on what needs to be done.
        • As a result, I become even sleepier and end up falling asleep while working.
    • For example, if I were to write an essay from 21:00 to 28:00,
      • I should finish outlining and reading references from 21:00 to 23:00,
      • And then from 23:00 onwards, I should put it into writing and refine the details.
    • When I think about the times when the late-night deadline boost worked well and when it didn’t,
      • The ones that worked well:
        • The first TOK Essay was somewhat successful with the late-night deadline boost because I had already written an outline beforehand.
          • I was able to just focus on turning the details into writing.
        • The Math IA was also easy because I already had a general idea and direction to follow.
      • The ones that didn’t work well:
        • I remember that TOK Essay 2/3 didn’t go well, probably because the outline was not well-organized, so I lost motivation in the middle of the night.
          • (I might be distorting my memory a bit to make this argument.)
        • For the main TOK Essay, I didn’t even write an outline in the first place, so the work didn’t progress even with a late-night deadline.
