• I think the history textbook for#ib is more interesting compared to the Japanese one.#education#ministryofeducation
    • It explains various events in chronological order as elements of one theme (e.g. radicalization in Japan).
    • In addition to facts, it presents the cause-and-effect relationship with that theme.
      • For example, the increase in literacy rate through compulsory education made it easier for the government to disseminate information and control the thoughts of the citizens.
    • However, the content may be biased, so it may not be good.

  • From the IB History study guide, there are six main concepts:
    • Change
    • Continuity
    • Cause
    • Consequence
    • Significance
    • Perspective

  • History can have countless branches.

    • Historians explain why the current history was chosen instead of those branches.
    • It is difficult because accurate records are not left and human intentions are involved.
  • It is easy to explain the reasons using hindsight, but it is biased.

  • It is not deterministic, as there are too many events involved.

  • It is impossible to predict the future, considering this point.

    • Looking at history with hindsight may seem like we can make predictions, but that’s not the case.
  • The purpose of studying history is to “understand that there are far more possibilities than we can imagine before us.”
