  • My grades are on a downward trend and it’s really bad.

    • The direct cause is clear: my approach to assignments and lectures has been increasingly careless.
    • Especially this semester, the habit of engaging in academics as part of my routine has almost disappeared, and everything has been driven by deadlines.
  • Somewhere in my mind, there is a sense of indulgence like, “If I can produce results in research, it’s okay to sacrifice some academic performance.”

  • At the same time, I also think that neglecting the foundation among undergraduate students will lead to difficulties later on, so I want to allocate resources properly to my studies.

  • Setting a vague goal like “Let’s aim for the best grades possible” can lead to interpreting any outcome positively depending on how I perceive it.

    • This is not good.
  • I want to clearly define how much resources I should allocate to my studies and what grades I should aim for.

    • By setting clear evaluation criteria for myself, I can prevent making excuses like “Research was tough, so it’s okay.”
    • If I can correctly recognize success/failure, even if things don’t go well, there is room for improvement.
  • I want to transform a vague sense of crisis into a clear awareness of the problem.

  • I will reconsider this during the registration for [Columbia Spring 2025].
