Technologies being implemented for consumers, such as VR HMDs for audiovisual experiences.

It seems possible to conduct VR research just by creating VR systems in Unity, but if that’s all you do, you can only do research that anyone can do (technically), and I’m worried about that. I aspire to do research like “the pioneering research in the field of VR and HCI from 30 years ago.” So, even if I only do research using consumer VR devices in 2023, I feel like I won’t be able to reach that level, and it’s causing some anxiety (?).

  • Well, there’s no need to panic, but I want to think about what I should do in the future while considering Researcher Role Models.

  • Scenarios to avoid

    • Ending up with limited abilities and research experience as an undergraduate student, where “I have software implementation skills and the ability to expand existing technologies, but I don’t have the power or unique expertise to open up new fields.” It seems important to avoid this by not rushing for short-term achievements like No Need to Rush.

      • As someone who is interested in HCI and has only accumulated research experience in that area, I have a slight feeling that I might get stuck without developing expertise. (I don’t know for sure)
