I don’t understand the concept of “intellectual property” at all, so I want to learn about it. (I was surprised to hear that universities generally hold the rights to intellectual property in lab research, but when I think about it, I don’t really understand what it means.)

• It seems to be a general term for various rights:

  • Patent rights, utility model rights, design rights, trademark rights, copyright, prevention of unfair competition, breeder’s rights, geographical indications, circuit layout rights, trade names.
