  • The video is interesting, with a good punchline that made me laugh (blu3mo).

  • Blend the background video only when there is a change in the visuals.

  • Introducing the concept of Augmented Awareness.

  • Due to our limited senses, humans cannot fully perceive our environment without the ability to see, hear, or feel changes. This challenge is even greater for individuals with impairments in one of their senses. Various projects are dedicated to addressing this issue by enhancing one of the sensory modalities. For instance, Heun et al. developed the Perifoveal Display, which enhances peripheral vision awareness 8. There are also ongoing studies on projected peripheral displays 3. To assist individuals with hearing impairments, a system that visualizes sound from behind the user has been created 9. In terms of haptic sensation, Mateevitsi et al. utilized tactile transducers across the user’s body to alert them when objects approach 11.

  • Our research shares a similar goal. We aim to enhance users’ awareness by augmenting their most dominant sense, which is typically vision. While previous studies focused on peripheral vision, our work expands beyond that to broaden a user’s awareness outside the typical field of view.
