• Goal: I want to permanently preserve LINE chat history.

  • Instances when history is lost:

    • Changing PC models.
    • Changing smartphone models across different operating systems.
    • Other accidents.
  • I really don’t understand the specifications for syncing and backing up LINE.

  • I will provide links to useful sites I found during my research.

    • (These sites are mostly random, so be careful.)

    • About the duration of chat history storage in the PC version of LINE.
  • 20210205

    • Tested if it is possible to migrate LINE history between two Macs.
    • Since the iMac has chat logs from an earlier period than the MBP, I replaced the /Data folder of the MBP with the one from the iMac.
      • Library/Users/__/Library/Containers/jp.naver.line.mac/Data/Library/Containers/jp.naver.line/Data
      • (For some reason, the folder structure is repeated twice.)
    • It seems to have worked well, as I can trace back to the same point as the iMac on the MBP.
    • Therefore, by backing up the ~/Data folder and properly transferring it when switching to a new Mac, it should be possible to carry over the chat history permanently.
      • (Unless switching to Windows.)
  • 20211119

    • I switched to an M1Max MacBook Pro, so I followed the steps mentioned above.
    • I think the migration went smoothly without any issues.
    • By the way, I can trace back to logs from 20181108 onwards.
      • Examples: Around the time of Kayak Workplace Experience and preparation for TEDxGKA.
      • Anything before that is probably no longer available anywhere, so it’s a pity.
