🛠 Experience 2: GKA Digitalization Committee

  • Creativity & Service

  • 2021/4 - Now

  • What I did:

    • I established the “Digitalization Committee” and became its first leader.
      • The committee’s purpose is to develop software to improve our school life.
        • For example, we created a LINE Chat bot that provides information about the next AEON Bus departure time and a Poker tip manager bot.
    • Why I established it
      • I wanted to introduce the fun of technology and coding to other students.
        • Gunma has fewer opportunities for entering the coding world compared to Tokyo.
    • What I did
      • I laid the foundation for the committee.
      • I taught basic coding to beginner members.
    • Accomplishment
      • I participated in the Civictech Challenge Cup with 6 committee members.
        • 2021/8 - 2021/10
        • We planned and developed a prototype of software.
        • We won the 1st Prize & PRAID Prize, receiving a prize money of +610,000 yen.
  • Learning Outcomes:

    • Strength & Growth / Challenge & Skills
      • I faced the challenge of being a leader, which I had avoided before.
      • Through struggles, I discovered my own leadership style that aligns with my personality.
        • I demonstrated individual growth through the “CAS Stages.”
    • Initiative & Planning
    • Commitment & Perseverance
      • We held regular committee meetings and adapted to the school closure by continuing our activities online using Scrapbox & Zoom.
    • Collaborative Skills
      • I collaborated with 10 committee members to carry out projects as a team.
        • I delegated coding tasks to other members.
      • I also collaborated with the Student Council to establish and run the committee.
    • Global Engagement
      • I identified issues in our community and initiated activities to address them using our creativity.
      • I connected with global “Civic-Tech” activities.
        • Civictech: A term for activities by citizens that use technology to solve social issues, which has been spreading globally recently.

    • Ethics of Choices & Actions
      • I considered and discussed the desires of different members in our school community as we aimed to make positive changes.
        • This included teachers, students, parents, and office staff.
  • Overall Reflection

    • I challenged myself in new areas that I previously avoided.
      • For example, engaging in physical exercises and taking on a leadership role.
    • Instead of forcing myself to do things I don’t enjoy, I searched for activities that align with my personality.
