Research Paper Challenges for Asynchronous Collaboration in Augmented Reality

Abstract: Collaboration in Augmented Reality (AR) applications is an area with great potential. While synchronous collaborative AR applications, both co-located and remote, have been widely explored, asynchronous interfaces have not received the same level of attention. Asynchronous processes involve collaboration over time without the need for all participants to be present simultaneously. In the context of AR applications, asynchronous collaboration typically involves creating registered annotations that can be reviewed later. However, the potential of asynchronous collaboration in AR goes beyond this basic concept. This paper highlights the unique opportunity for developing support for asynchronous collaboration in AR, explores ways to enhance communication, and discusses the specific research challenges associated with asynchronous collaboration in AR.
